Wine | Note | Comment |
---|---|---|
Morgon Domaine des Perelles | 89 | The 2013 Morgon (Domaine des Perelles) comes from 2.3 hectares of 50-year-old vines on granite and schist soils, and after 50% of the crop is de-stemmed, it is aged in stainless steel vats. It has an attractive ripe nose with blackberry, cassis and violet scents that blossom nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied ripe black and red fruit, a fine line of acidity and commendable weight and concentration toward the finish without losing freshness. Drink now-2019. |
Julienas Chateau de la Bottière | 88 | The 2013 Julienas (Chateau de la Bottiere) comes from the domaine’s 3.75 hectares of vine and is 50% de-stemmed and aged in stainless steel vats. It has a broodier nose compared to the Domaine des Mouilles cuvee, with earthy dark berry fruit and a dab of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, good weight in the mouth, with fine structure on the black currant finish. Drink now-2018. |
Morgon Les Versauds | 88 | The 2013 Morgon (Les Versauds) has a slightly pinched black cherry and iodine-scented bouquet that needs more bottle age to unwind. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry with black cherry and black currant fruit laced with cedar toward the structured, slightly aloof finish. Give this 2 or 3 years in bottle. Drink 2016-2022. . |
Julienas Domaine des Mouilles | 86 | The 2013 Julienas (Domaine des Mouilles) comes from six hectares of 50-year-old vine and is 50% de-stemmed. It has an attractive candied orange peel and red cherry nose that is lively and full of vigor. The palate is sweet and plump on the entry, smooth in texture, with a soft mulberry finish. Drink now-2016. |
Chenas Domaine des Mouilles | 85 | The 2013 Chenas (Domaine des Mouilles) comes from 1.2 hectares of 40-year-old vines, is 50% destemmed and is aged in stainless steel. It has a simple, slightly reduced bouquet that needs to express more fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and has a core of fleshy ripe dark cherry and cassis fruit, with a pleasant “furry” finish that will have commercial appeal. Drink now-2017. |
